| Planning Engineer Vacancy | January 2012 |
| PLANNING ENGINEER Due to continued expansion of the company, Turnell and Odell Ltd, a respected sub-contract engineering company in business for over 100 years, is seeking to employ a graduate Engineer within the Planning and Production Department. The successful candidate should hold a 2.1 Production Engineering Degree, preferably incorporating a Computing module, although an AS pass in Computer Studies may be acceptable. Knowledge of Best Practice and Lean Manufacturing Techniques is essential. Work Placement experience in an Engineering Machine Shop is desirable, although an understanding of Machine Tool operation may be acceptable. Knowledge of Autocad and SolidWorks is desirable, as is the ability to both Project manage, and to demonstrate good communication skills. The candidate will need to show evidence of performance within a teamworking environment, together with a high degree of self motivation. The successful applicant will report to the Production Manager, and assist him in delivering a well prepared Production Plan for the company's 2 shift workforce. This will mainly be achieved by using the Preactor Scheduling system in conjunction with information drawn from the MRP system. The other main aspect of the role will be to help the company improve its Lean Manufacturing techniques employing the well known and recognised Industry Best Practice. This will involve reviewing existing working practices and methods, proposing changes, and assisting to implement any necessary changes for the company to work towards both gaining SC21 certification, and achieving excellent on-time delivery performance. This is an opportunity to put theory into practice in a busy Sub Contract machine shop and an agile mind and a good grasp of computing skills will be essential. It will be a challenging role but the opportunity is there to progress further within the company as the plans for the future are both ambitious and exciting. Ltd. Job Purpose: To ensure that customer enquiries are dealt with appropriately
and in a timely manner. Assist the planner by routing the estimates
accordingly. The successful candidate will be either an experienced estimator
working within a CNC machining environment or a time served machinist
wishing to further their career and move into an office based role.
Understanding the operations and processes required to produce precision
made components is essential. Basic hours – 39 per week although additional hours may be required

| Wellingborough’s Member of Parliament, Mr. Peter Bone, FCA, MP,
accepted Turnell & Odell’s invitation to visit the factory this
month, and was impressed by both the new technology and the breadth
of T & O manufacturing. However, he has recognised that there are major constraints on smaller businesses, and has involved the Business Secretary by raising with him the issues that were discussed during the visit. |

Job Title - CNC Programmer/Setter / Turner We are precision engineers involved in prototyping and production of engineered parts including high performance car, commercial vehicle, motorsport, rail, renewable energy and aerospace applications. Achievement of growth targets requires the appointment of a CNC Programmer / Setter/ Turner as an addition to our team. As a CNC Programmer/ Setter/ Turner you will be tasked with programming the Fanuc controls, setting tools and offset data and precision machining as required. Additionally, you will be responsible for proof machining components, running machines and inspecting the parts that are produced. Working to tight tolerances, you will produce high quality components from customer drawings and sample parts. Working mainly with small batch production, speed and flexibility will be important in keeping the machines productive. To be considered for this position, you must be apprentice trained, have experience gained within a similar role, programming, setting and using CNC Lathes Experience of CNC Lathes and Fanuc controls is essential. As a CNC Programmer / Setter/Turner, you must have a good attention to detail, an organised approach and be accustomed to working with minimum supervision. Excellent communication skills are also key. This is a full time position. Normal hours are 39 per week, and
you will probably be required to work shifts. Turnell & Odell Ltd are seeking a Technical Engineer with ONC Mechanical Engineering as a minimum qualification. Apprentice trained, preferably with machining skills is desirable, although not essential, and a degree educated person with practical experience may be suitable for this position. Candidates should be computer literate, with experience of using Word, Excel, and Access, as well as use of the internet and email. Knowledge of AutoCad is essential, with previous experience of Solid Works desirable. They should have the ability to read and understand engineering drawings and technical terminology. Communication skills within a team-working environment are a desirable asset, as is the ability to use initiative. It is essential that the candidate has served a mechanical engineering apprenticeship, and a formal qualification would be desirable although not essential. Although it is essential that the candidate is a fully qualified Turner, some training will be given in CNC control, and it is desirable that they have some prior knowledge of this. Ability to work shifts is desirable, although not essential.
